Skipsea Sands Holiday Park

There's something about waking up with the North Sea stretching out in front of you. Not as a postcard view – as the thing you actually see when you pull back the curtains. Your curtains.

Skipsea Sands sits perched on the clifftops between Flamborough Head and the River Humber, in that quiet stretch of Yorkshire coastline where families have been coming back for years. Not because it's fashionable. Because it works. And because once you've spent a summer here, the idea of going anywhere else starts to feel like settling.

The park itself feels like it was designed by people who've actually been on holiday with children. Indoor heated pool for the days when the weather turns. Adventure playground, soft play, crazy golf – the sort of things that mean the grandkids are already asking when they can come back before they've even left. A fishing lake for the mornings when you just want an hour of quiet. And a three-storey soft play area, which sounds excessive until you realise it means you can sit with a coffee while they burn off energy, knowing exactly where they are.

Bridlington is only ten miles up the coast. Hornsea's south. Fraisthorpe Beach is close enough that "let's just go and see the sea" doesn't turn into an expedition. You're near enough to everything, far enough from the noise. The sort of location that makes owning here feel less like a purchase and more like securing the place you'd be coming to anyway.

The Boathouse Bar & Restaurant sorts dinner when no one can face cooking again. The Showbar does evening entertainment – the kind where you go in sceptical and leave having sung along more than you'd admit. There's a Costa on site, which matters more than it should when you're staying for a fortnight and really need a proper flat white.

The Yorkshire coast does this well. Skipsea Sands does it particularly well. And when you own your own static caravan here, it stops being a holiday you book once a year. It becomes the place you go. The place that's yours.
